The Madurai Meenakshi temple is part of most of our Summer vacations during childhood!
The huge complex with its various tunnel like spaces were baffling and intriguing at the same time… I loved looking at all the paintings on the walls, rangolis on the floor as well as the ones on the ceilings, that appear perfectly symmetrical. I remember wondering how they managed to do it so beautifully on the ceilings !!
The walk to the temple, the walk within the temple premises.. the various deities and the legends about them that granma, aunt would narrate… the eating of the prasadams sitting on the steps around the central pool… all these are a slice of our childhood 🙂
Sharing a couple of pictures of the Madurai Meenakshi temple, taken during our visit to Madurai.. in Dec 2012.
The stone pillars and the fine ‘elephant’ structures… hard, durable and enduring.. through so many centuries of existence!!
This one was taken inside the temple premises. I was not sure whether photography was prohibited.. but managed to click a few pics..
This is the tip of the South tower or Gopuram, which is the tallest tower in this temple complex.
For this week’s theme “HARD” (Stone, Steel, Cement, Glass, Durable, Difficult,…) at Thursday Challenge.
