Have a great Sunday folks!!
Friday Flowers!
Cliched though it sounds… time sure is flying… and at a never before amazing speed!! Am sure many others are also feeling the same…
Just last weekend we were thinking that sis1 will be back in a week. She’s in Kolkata for a Mathematics workshop. And the day is already here. She’ll be back on Sunday… we are all excited about the goodies that she might bring
of course we’re also mighty excited to have her back
… to hear to her stories. This is the first time she’s travelled to Kolkata.. or for that matter anywhere, alone. Though she’s staying with her in-laws, she’s been figuring her way in the city alone!! Brave girl she is
So that’s the excitement for this weekend.
Was also thinking of going off to a mall/bookstore by myself and spending some time browsing through books … An idea is forming.. will wait n see if something materializes.
Hope you all have a great, fun filled, exciting, relaxing weekend too
Thinking out loud…
Is it important or even necessary to teach religion or religious texts in school? I was wondering about this after coming across this piece of news yesterday.
I studied in a school run by the Christian nuns. However, I dont remember having been made to read the Bible, or even parts of it. We used to sing some hymns though. There was never an attempt to impress upon us that Christianity is the best… at least I never felt that way. From what I’ve heard, some schools do make the children read from the Bible. Not sure what goes on in institutions run by Muslims.
For me religion is something that is personal. In the sense, something that guides you in your daily life. Not the rituals and other stuff. You could say, its more about values. What is needed today is that there be more focus on instilling values in the children rather than teach them out of religious scriptures or texts. Reading religious texts they can choose to do when they grow up and find genuine interest in doing so.
Some may argue that instilling values is the aim here too. But why through religion? Values are not specific to religion. Human values can be taught without getting religion/religious texts involved. People with a world view are the need of the hour and of the future … not religious fundamentalists!!
Yellow yellow, pretty fellow :)
A pretty, cheerful Hibiscus flower for this week’s theme ‘Yellow’ at Thursday Challenge
Pic was taken by sis2 on our trip to Nagarhole. The home stay where we stayed was surrounded by lovely flowers… esp Hibiscus in so many hues!!
This one was clicked by me in our apartment premises
Pretty na!!
Tiny Tidbits
One day when I was back home from work, Ammu brought a book to show me. She started walking around with the book and suddenly said ‘see mamma our skeleton is walking!’
One morning while getting ready for school she quips ‘Mamma, why cant we have names like comma, full stop, punctuation… ?’
*****
Adi to his baba *while getting ready for his afternoon nap* : ‘This is not bedsheet’
Baba: ‘This is bedsheet. The one you use at night is called blanket. It is thicker and this one is thin’
Adi *thinking some*: ‘Ya..this fellow didnt drink (milk) properly..thats why he is thin!’
*****
Adi *pointing to a thread on his wrist*: This one Hanumanji gave it to me… he’ll protect me. Bomma, you tell Hanumanji not to protect … I will only beat up all the bad people! I’m strong!!
*****
To Thata and D aunty (our house help): No one should come down. I will only come by myself. I’m biggg now!!!
he’s miffed that they go to the gate to pick him when he’s back from school!

Reversal of roles…
Baba, when I grow up I will tell you how much you should eat. You should not say enough and all!
If you dont listen to me, I will send you to boarding school!
Thata, you should not watch so much TV. Your eyes will get spoilt! n he goes on to switch off the TV
*****
Adi is not scared of anyone. Except his didi, that is
He cant be at peace without touching/taking/playing with her things when she’s not around. He comes back from school in the afternoon and she in the evening. When back, she freshens up, eats something and takes a nap. As soon as he senses that she might wake up, he scrambles around and makes sure all her things are in place!! He’s that scared
Sometimes though, there are tell tale signs left over and he gets a good dressing down from her!

To grow is to learn :)
List of things that I have always wanted to learn/do ..
Dance! I love to dance though I have had no formal training. I would love to go join some classes … maybe Shiamak’s!! just so that I can do a jig more confidently
But what I’m really really looking at is to join Bharatnatyam classes! I so want to be able to … I had taken a few classes when I was in class 4, but had to quit due to doctor’s advise post a health complication
Right now, the main problem is with the logistics. I’m trying to figure out what best can be done. Wish me luck
Swim
This one has been on my list for like forever!! I am hoping that I will be able to do this along with Ammu
I had thought that it wouldnt be difficult for me to learn. But a few swimming related posts have made me a bit apprehensive. Well, just a lil bit
Drive
I went for driving classes this summer. Was able to get a hold on the basics. But thats about it. I realize I need a lot of practice to be able to actually drive in Namma Bengaluru. Sigh! BIL1 has promised to help. I will get the DL before the LLR expires… hopefully
Sew
I attended tailoring classes for a couple of weeks.. was able to sew a frock and a skirt. But that was eons ago! I always dreamt of sewing cute lil dresses for Ammu. Time has flown while dreaming and Ammu is no more little
But still, I hope that someday I’ll sew dresses for her and am sure she’ll be very excited about that
Share
This is a more recent one. Felt this after reading some material from a session at office, that I did not attend. Realized that one can make a difference in other’s lives just by a simple act of sharing. Sharing the life lessons, the experiences, the insights. A little introspection made me realize that at a deeper level, I have always wanted to offer hope to people. I have been like that in my interactions with others. I look forward to opportunities where I can talk to people and help them rise from distress to hope. I hope that I will find my calling … soon!
It felt good to write this down. It was actually a tag that had been passed on to me by Comfy. Its been quite a long time and was almost forgotten
It was’nt in the drafts. Just remembered and felt like doing it right away ![]()
