Tiny tidbits..
A few tidbits from our recent trip…
The day dawned bright and nice. On our way to the railway station…
Me *excitedly to Adi*: Today we’ll go by train!!
Adi: Yes!!… I will only drive
On getting into the train…
Adi: The train will not go… it will go only when i drive…
One morning… Me: Adi, first brush your teeth and drink milk… only then i’ll give you the building blocks..
Adi *pulling a long face*: I will tell baba to come n beat you!! poor guy doesnt realise that his baba will do no such thing!!
Whenever we say anything that he doesnt like, or restrict him from doing something…he says ‘You go to your home’
probabaly picked this from his didi who used to say this whenever upset with someone…
And as soon as his mood is alright he comes to me and says ‘ Bomma..I’ll be a good boy…I’ll not trouble you
.. Friends?’ extending his tiny hands

The day we went to the palace, I had told them that I’ll show them the jamboo savari elephants that would be resting in the palace premises. As we were heading that way, I saw the elephants headed out… in a line. Excitedly, I showed them the spectacle..though only the outlines were seen against the twilight.
Adi: Wow! look elephant train. But where is the track?
We were dumbstruck by his originality! But it didnt stop at that. While roaming around there, he was dragging us towards some direction or the other. When asked what is it that he wanted, he said .. ‘I want to see the tracks!’
He narrated the elephant train and tracks kissa to everyone who called
And each time I had to explain to them what exactly he meant

Ammu, these days, is more inclined towards relating things to what she’s read or seen. While the train just started from B’lore, she looked at the little houses on the sides and said that these are kuccha houses…
While standing on the terrace she asked where is earth? i explain that we are on the earth..it is like a ball and that the sky surround the earth. She nodded … I hope she got it!
Another day she asks about dinosaurs. She can imagine dinosaurs roaming the earth coz she has seen that in the cartoons. I explained to her that they lived a long long time ago and that we cannot see them now… that we couldnt have been here had the dinosaurs not gone away.
After some thought she says.. ‘mamma we’ll go up in the sky..’
Me: why?
Ammu: we can see the dinosaurs from there..
. Ingenious.. isnt she?

Mysooru Dasara…
… yeshtondu sundara
* Visited the Mysore palace and the Dasara flower show..
* Clicked pics ..
* Sat in the lawns and enjoyed the song and dance performances by some orchestra group while eating the famous delhi papad and menasinakayi bhajjis
* Lunch at uncle’s place on Ayudha pooja
* Visited the Dasara exhibition… but had to return disappointed coz of power/generator failure at the amusement rides
* Walked along the brightly lit streets looking at the milling crowds, vehicles and tanga passing by..
* On Dashami, lazed at home… reread a couple of books and watched the dasara procession live telecast on TV.
* Kids vetoed the idea of venturing out in the evening … they were busy building temples and high rises and did not want to be disturbed
* Watched the grand fireworks that mark the end of Dasara celebrations from the terrace
* On the last day… managed to go and meet my friends G n S from my university days. Spent just couple of hours.. had to catch the train at 2.00 pm. They are my can-pick-up-from-where-you-left type of friends
and needless to say we can go on talking if left to ourselves
A temple in the palace premises
The palace gates..
Adi with tatha .. at the gate
Plants… lotus shape
Majestic .. Gandaberunda!
Beautiful lilies
Lovely arrangement with idol of the Goddess in the centre ..
As we went during the later part of Dasara, we missed the events that were part of Entertainment Dasara and Yuva Dasara. Next time I plan to go during the earlier part and catch up on these…
Hopefully, there will be some interesting events and i’ll have the company of my friends!!
Happy weekend folks
Thoughts on a roller coaster..
Today, on my way to the office, I saw a small boy with his grandfather. At the corner of the road, generally looking this side and that… maybe they had come for a walk and the boy just wanted to stand a while and look at the passing vehicles, I thought. It brought back one particular memory
. Once, when Ammu was around 3 yrs old, my sis 2 had taken her to a nearby school for the polio drops . Though the place was quite close to our home, the two of them returned after quite a long time. Turned out that, Ammu, after taking the drops, had insisted on sitting in the nearby bus stop. After looking at passing vehicles for nearly 30-40 minutes, she had given green signal to go home
.
I love it when I see kids with some elder(s) on the street… the kid(s), all freshly powdered and with a spring in their steps and a huge smile. I imagine they must be out to get some toffee, or a toy, or the book/pencil which is Ammu’s favorite
. Or they may just be going for a stroll. In any case, their excitement is hard to miss and it always brings on a smile
I particularly love the grandparent – grandchild pair
.There’s some endearing charm about them… And so it is that I feel that my dad is a very lucky person… who is fortunate to spend time with his grandchildren and enjoy them!! The times when he does the small favours for them or when they have their little fights… when the lil ones come up n say ‘dont say anything to tatha…he’s my tatha’ … there’s such joy in all this… I say silent prayers of gratitude.
And then my thought goes to mom… she’s missing all this I feel. Then again I think, she’s here too… looking at all that they do and enjoying it.. if thats possible. Just that they cannot see her and know her… this saddens me like no words can ever describe…
Hello!!
Phew! I got to my blog again!! I guess it must have felt orphaned
orrrr… was the break a welcome one ?
Well, its been exactly one month since I did a post. And, I’ve missed recording a lot of blogworthy moments
Adi is a big boy now! His mantra these days, since he turned 3, is ‘I can!…I’m biggg!!’ Biggg is the buzzword, if you know what I mean
All his waking hours are filled with non stop chatter
And his mind is itching for action all the time!! He forms correct sentences and talks clearly and with such a flourish that it leaves us stumped … many a times. Wonder how the little cuddly fellow has grown up all of a sudden. He has learnt all the words n mannerisms from his didi… apes her, to be precise
The nice things are always appreciated but when it comes to the whining and stuff, sis says that she can’t stand the repeat telecast LOL!!
Some snippets…
Ammu*pointing to my skirt*: Mamma, pls i want this skirt when I grow big
Adi: Bomma, I want this skirt when I become big
Ammu *pointing to some bangle of mine*: Mamma, I want your bangles when I become big..
Adi: Bomma, I want your bangles when I become big
Ammu: But this is for girls
Adi*pronto*: Bomma, I want this when I become a girl!
Couple of days back…Adi climbed onto his didi’s red chair n fell with a thud. Thata was visibly shocked. But Adi got up with his usual non chalance and thata picked the chair and kept it in a different position. Adi then came n occupied his seat, turned around and said ‘thata, say sorry to me!’ We were amused, but he continued…. ‘Thata, first you say sorry to me!!… say sorry…’
Thata: Why? what did i do?
Adi: Why did you take my chair? say sorry!!
We couldnt help laughing our hearts out. More than the words, it was his threatening action with his cute lil finger that had us in splits. While his mamma n baba are sometimes aghast at his words n actions, the granddad seems to be enjoying it all!! He is amused greatly by the lil ones prompt n witty remarks!! and takes great pride in recounting his stories to us

Ammu is on the dreaded path, that of perfectionism. This is not something new. Even as a pre schooler, she wanted her things to be kept in a neat way. And just the way she places them. Not for her, the neatness of mamma or thata!! She just wouldnt like it if we touched her stuff or placed them differently. But now, it has got a whole new dimension. She seems obsessed with neat writing… has been getting ‘neat work’ remarks from the teacher and that seems to egg her on. Not a bad thing at all. But she ends up spending most of her time writing and rewriting, erasing many times in between. And if still not pleased with the effort, she just tears off the page resulting in reams of paper going to the waste basket
i have tried to explain that paper is precious n should not be wasted but all that is in vain.Sis teases me saying that its my past that has come back to bug me!! I think it wont go away easily

Yesterday, the three of us, sis1, sis2 and me, went to watch Anjaana Anjaani. I had been wanting to go watch a movie in the theatre since quite some time. Sis 2, having had a holiday on the occasion of mahalaya, decided to book the tickets. and we went. And just as I was trying to recollect when was the last time that he 3 of us had gone to watch a movie, we realised that we had never gone together to watch a movie. Just the 3 of us that is. I have gone with either of them but never with both!! I was very surprised at this, given the fact that we hang out together almost all of our free time!!! And so..I’m recording this

Time’s a running, running so fast. there’s so much to do and so lil time
Isnt it? Dasara/Navratri/Durga pooja is already here and Diwali will also be here shortly!! Seems like where has 2010 gone already…But of course I’m not complaining. Its my annual vacation time… time for the trip to Mysore to soak in the Dasara ambience, to just be a part of all the lights n festivities
Its an experience I look forward to every year. This time I’ll be taking Adi along. First time without his mamma and baba. He is super excited…. more so for the train journey!! I forgot to mention…trains and aeroplanes are the most fascinating things for him right now
And he wants to know if the train will be as biggggg as our dining area
… thats big in comparison to his toy train na

Wish you all a happy weekend! Revel in the Dasara/Navratri/Durga pooja festivities
