Finally clicked the pics and uploaded them!… these were supposed to be our entries for the Jan Artsy Craftsy contest!!
Anyways.. toooooo late is definitely better than never

And.. dont miss her signature!! always with the hearts
The snowman and xmas tree done by me.. for Ammu.
The fun continued the next day with Adi joining us!! Both had a whale of a time dabbling with the paints.. :)
On a different note; my sis was very excited about the card we made for her and was surprised and happy to see the kids’ pictures in it
P.S: I just realized that this colorful post is just in time for Holi! Wish you all a very happy and colorful Holi!!
ETA: Linking this to the July ’11 Artsy Craftsy at Mindful Meanderings
The cat’s out of the bag!
Tell Ammu a secret.. and you can rest assured that it will reach the right audience
Enthused by the Artsy craftsy challenge, I started making a birthday card for my sister. Got the materials out and started cutting the coloured papers. Ammu was excited at seeing all the crafts stuff and the collection of old cards and random pictures cut out from old cards. While she was rummaging through them.. i told her that i’m making a card for chitti.. just to get her attention… and mainly to prevent any damage to my precious collection
. After the initial distraction she continued her exciting activity of discovering pictures and cute stickers stuck onto the cards and the envelopes .. and she wanted to strip them off the cards n covers
. In a further attempt to save my stuff.. i told her that the card is for chitti’s birthday and that she could use the covers then.. so let the stickers be. However, she let go of the them only when i told her that i’ll buy a new set for her. And ..by the time i stuck the cut outs onto the card.. she was done with her discoveries and the cards n covers were all separated and strewn all over.. much to my fury [ she did get scoldings from me... i cannot tolerate things being strewn over and moreover this was my precious collection
]
Well..i guess i have digressed..
Last sunday we had been to my sis’ place . At an opportune moment.. Ammu stands beside my sis and whispers to me.. ‘i’ll tell her?’ i pretend not to hear her.. but she is as persistent as ever!! And i know the moment has come
. I say OK.. but she wants me to promise her that i’ll make the card, i.e finish making it! After getting my nod.. she tells.. “mamma is making a card for you!
” . So you see the cat is out of the bag! So dumb of me to have trusted her to keep the surprise
She didnt stop at that. This weekend when we visited my sis [yes..its a weekly affair].. she gave her the details ” mamma has put heart shaped photos on the card .. mine and thambis”. She said it so fast that my sis didnt figure out what it was!.. or so she said. Hmm.. a bit of surprise is still there i think..but only so long as she doesnt hop over here to see new updates
. She hasnt checked my posts for over a month now..and i think/hope that she will not check until 25th.. which is her birthday! I’ll keep my fingers crossed
My sis’ doodles always include flowers with heart shaped petals .. and so the heart shaped petals n buds with the budding buddies
Here is my inspiration for this birthday card! .. the cards made out of hand made paper at Ammu’s school.
And another entry .. pom-poms made from tissue paper. I had seen this one a long time back but managed to make them only now. Thanks to Shruti!
Yay! I’m glad i did it this time! Actually had a few more ideas .. that stay put in the mind for now
. We’ll do that during Ammu’s summer vacations… hopefully
Attttack!!!
is their cute game when both of them are in good spirits
Ammu pounces on Adi calling out ‘atttack!’
Adi responds ‘ami please bolbo na… ‘ [i wont say 'please']
Ammu: ‘ami tumake chaadbo na…’ [i wont let you go]
Adi: ‘didi pleasssssssse amake chaad..’ [didi pleassssse let me go]
Ammu: ‘ aage haami de..’ [give me a kiss first !]
Adi plants kisses on his didi’s face and finds his freedom…
P.S: Dialogue is theirs..in Bengali; translation is mine… please bear!
Show n tell!!
It was ‘Show n tell’ exhibition at Ammu’s school last Friday n Saturday. This time, I just about managed to make a simple model of a fire station.Last year, it was a water park.
Actually, Ammu is not particular about the subject of her model/project, but she insisted that I make a model for her. This is such a sweet innocent stage, no thoughts of competition or race to be the best. Its just a time to enjoy doing such stuff and learning along the way!
It was a very quick one.. took about an hour and a quarter. And Ammu was very pleased and sooper excited that her model was ready, though at the eleventh hour! I took it to her school just in time *phew!*
Ammu was happy about the ‘show’ .. but not the ‘tell’. Anyways, it seems nobody asked her about it and so she was happy to give this excuse for not ‘telling’ about her model
Here are a few projects from her class..
This boy presented his model of the olympics stadium very well. Dont miss the lights with wiring n LEDs!
Forests, zoos, animals and parks are favorites with the nursery and pre-nursery kids.. n parents! Some of the more resourceful parents come up with intricate models of monuments, temples, etc.
Overall.. its fun!!! And a great time for creatively indulging with your little one
. Nothing can beat the awe and look of admiration that you get on finishing the model/project
P.S: Go here, for the water park and other models’ pics from last year’s event..
Awarded and tagged!!!
Yay! yippeeee!! Lovely Swaram has awarded me with this!!! Sooper excited as this my first award
Glad to know.. my honesty can be seen/felt by the people who read me
And this tag is a first as well!
The Rules:
1.I must thank the person who gave me the award and list their blog and link it
2.I must list 10 honest things about myself
3.I must put a copy of Honest Scrap logo on my blog
4.I must select at least 7 8 other worthy bloggers and list their links
5.I must notify the bloggers of the award and hopefully they will follow the above three requirements also.
Thanks Swaram… I needed to rake my brains..as i’m not good at writing or even speaking about myself
but it has been a good exercise at taking stock of myself… So here I go..
- I am an avid reader… not that i buy a lot of books..but i can read anything that catches my attention…it can even be a paper in which bhajjis/churmuri had been packed!
- I love to write down my thoughts… I used to on cards, or even on scraps of paper ; though never in a diary. Somehow there was a break..and i didnt write anything for a long time.. Now..with the kids..its impossible not to write.. and so I blog [though not as much as i would have loved to
]. - I am a cleanliness freak… I like my home to be spic and span..including the closets and cabinets. However, i do realize that trying to be perfect in these matters is no good.. its just a drain on your energy and time…
- I hate lies and hypocrisy.
- I always try to look for the good in anyone or anything..and try to see things from the other’s perspective.
- I cannot hate anyone.. hate is too strong a word for me..and i believe that life is too short to hate and hold grudges. And ..cursing is a no-no for me; i even manage to convince my sisters/dad against cursing or talking ill of others…they sometimes hate me for this!
- I have a creative bent of mind… and believe I would have done great if i had chosen the arts..fine arts or even the performing arts!! Right from school days..i have tried my hands at variety of arts/crafts.. always with good results
- I’m not a planner. I just take things as they come.. so i rarely panic. I hate it when someone asks me what my five year goals are ..or for that matter even one year goals
- I’m short tempered [only with my folks]; though i have tried to work through and around my temper… i still have a long way to go..
- I believe friendship is the best type of relationship; when you infuse friendship in your relationships, you always have it going for you
One of the activities in our summer vacations was to clean up the old trunk and the shelves [me and my sis had taken this upon ourselves... ]. We would always start it together..but invariably i would be left alone to complete the task! No..dont jump to conclusions yet.. my sis was never at fault. It was me who would start reading the news paper sheets spread at the bottom of the trunk ..and after waiting patiently for some time..she would quit out of sheer boredom!! Obviously, the same thing happened while cleaning the shelves.
After raking my brains for so long, i realized that the results of my attitude test on FB is quite close; I could have just done ctrl c and ctrl v. So..here it is
“you are the sort of person who likes to take life slowly… just one day at a time.. you usually know the difference between right and wrong. you believe in yourself. you put yourself in other peoples shoes and see how it feels to be them and then handle a situation accordingly.your attitude towards life is very positive…. you are liked by all and are a great friend.the flip side is that sometimes you care too much about other people and dont do what you really wanna do..”
I dont know anyone who has not already done this tag. So anyone interested can please take it up!
P.S: This was waiting for a nudge from Swaram
